A central feature of your drug rehab or alcohol rehab program will be participating in different forms of therapy. While individual therapy and behavioral therapy are necessary, you will quickly notice that a large majority of your time will be taking part in group therapy sessions. These sessions consist of talking to other people in your group about their experiences with addiction and work toward recovery. Once you return home to Cherry Hill, we always encourage our clients to find local narcotics anonymous or alcoholic anonymous meetings to attend.
These meetings will follow the model of the group therapy sessions that you experienced at Legacy Healing. An alcoholics anonymous meeting or a narcotics anonymous meeting will usually last an hour. The beauty of these types of arrangements is that they not only give you the chance to meet other people that are combating addiction in your area, but they also help you to remain focused on your own recovery goals. Better yet, countless meetings happen throughout the day and well into the night. If you feel like you’ve had a bad day and you have a temptation, you can go to a meeting right before bed. Were you having a bad morning? You can go to a meeting during your lunch hour.
Here are some meetings around the Cherry Hill area to attend:
7 Up Club Group at the Unitarian Universalist Church
For many people, starting your day with a meeting is the best thing you can do to help you maintain your sobriety, even for just that day. The 7 Up Club Group offers a meeting every Sunday at 7 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Church. This is an open meeting that means that a person struggling with addiction or a person who is simply interested in learning more about addiction can attend. It’s recommended that you come to this meeting a few minutes early so that everyone is settled by the time the meeting will start.
It’s not uncommon for a person to struggle with their addiction after a long day that may have been filled with stress or anxiety. The Freedom to Choose meeting occurs every Tuesday night from 7:30 to 8:30 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church. It’s important to note that this is a closed meeting, which means that the only people who can attend this meeting have personally suffered from addiction. The meeting’s theme changes each week and can include a speaker, literature study, or focus on the 12 steps.
In most ways, an alcoholics anonymous meeting follows the same premise as a narcotics anonymous meeting. Attending at least one of these meetings weekly is a great way to begin developing and building your system of support now that you are back home.
Back to Basics Cherry Hill
Although the Back to Basics Cherry Hill meeting is welcome to anyone, it was specifically developed in such a way to welcome newcomers who may be hesitant about attending a meeting. This meeting primarily focuses on the Big Book, which can provide you with valuable insight into addictive behaviors. Additionally, you will learn more about working through the steps and how to help your recovery. This meeting occurs every Sunday from 7 PM to 8 PM.
Philly Speaker Group at St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church
Attending a speaker meeting is a great way to develop your own understanding of what others go through during addiction. Also, you may come to find that the speaker has gone through similar experiences to you. Every Thursday between 8 PM and 9 PM, the Philly Speak Group features a speaker who talks about just that. You will have the opportunity to listen to their story and learn more about what that person did not only to overcome their sobriety but maintain it. In many cases, the speaker is available after the meeting to speak to group members personally.
When you come to Legacy Healing Center in Cherry Hill, we will teach you the importance of looking to yourself and the people around you for the support you need to overcome your addiction. Whether you’re interested in an addiction treatment program that addresses your drug or alcohol addiction, we will work with you on a personal level to uncover the root cause of your addiction so that you can finally begin to start to heal.
